Intermediate Italian
In this course, emphasis
is placed on complex forms of syntax, grammar, and, in particular,
on the uses of the subjunctive, the historical past, and the indirect
discourse. There are weekly literary readings of contemporary Italian
authors such as Maraini, Fenoglio, Benni, and Morante, two-page
written compositions, and nightly graded homework exercises. The
course is designed to take students through the level of Italian
5 in the UC quarter system and is conducted entirely in Italian.
The final grade is based on six quizzes, six compositions, a mid-term,
and written and oral final examinations.
Texts include: Magari! + Oxford Italian Grammar + Exercise Workbook
